The Zasp Stars of Zambia for the category of boys 15 made their debut in Gothia Cup 2012 tournament, the largest youth football tournament in the world. Playing football with bare foot is never a problem with these kids who are faced with enormous challenges of both environmental and social problems, which ranges from lack of youth empowerments or lack of basic facilities and vulnerabilities to diseases. However, these youth dreams were made realistic through sponsorship by Zambian Association for Sustainable Projects (ZASP) which was founded by Swedes in 1989 in the Easter province of Zambia in Lundazi district. The ZASP projects in the area are in different forms which include communities’ development, educational programs and youth development through sport.
According to the coach, Mr. Adamson Musukwa, The Zasp team still has lots of challenges they are facing to improve the standard of football in Kakoma area which are lack of training materials, training facilities etc. however he said the experience, challenges and exposure the Gothia Cup 2012 has offered them will be implemented when they get back to their home country in Zambia.
