Africa has seen significant increase in bilateral trade over the decade with vast mineral reserves, increase in exploration and improve regulatory regime which makes the continent very important. The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences,IVA(Kungl. Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien) organized a seminar on how Sweden can contribute to make the African mineral resources to improve sustainable development in Africa.
The seminar started with a welcome speech by Magnus Ericsson, member of IVA council for Africa program. Then followed by the guest speaker Lars H . Thunell , a former CEO of the international Finance Corporation(IFC) of world bank in Washington DC and a Liberian businessman Mr. Ethelbert J . L. Cooper, chairman of International Mining & Infrastructure Corporation plc(IMIC) also addressed the audience.
Opportunities were looked into at the seminar and how the extract from these resources can be use in the best possible way for African social and economic development while the challenges like corruption, lack of adequate power, bad road network, and inconsistency in the government regulations were discussed.
