The Grammy Award winner from Cape Varde, Cesaria Evora dies at the age of 70.
She was known as “Barefoot Diva” for often performing without shoes. She was considered as the world`s greatest exponents of Morna, a form of music that is considered as a popular music in Cape Varde which reflect on the history of the island in West Africa before they gain independence in 1975 from their former colony, Portugal. She started recording late in 1988 and sold over 300,000 copies in 1992 on her album “Miss Perfumado” She won a Grammy award in 2004 for her album Von D`Amor.
Two days national mourning has been declared in Cape Varde to honour her.
